Aubrecht v. Taylor

Closed Case
Gender Discrimination in Employment
Settled in 1995 for $1.498 million in cash and injunctive relief

This gender discrimination class action was resolved in 1995 for $1.498 million in cash and injunctive relief. The plaintiffs in this action challenged Heinrich Envelope’s practice of limiting women to the lowest paying positions at the company and excluding women from positions awarded to men. This segregation of the work force limited promotion opportunities for women and excluded them from merit or “premium” pay for which men were eligible by virtue of the jobs they held. The plaintiffs further alleged that Heinrich Envelope subjected them to a sexually hostile environment. As part of the resolution of this case, Heinrich Envelope was required to increase the number of women promoted at the company. Measures to accomplish this included training programs and posting vacancies for jobs. Heinrich also was required to implement a training program on sexual harassment prevention.
