Closed Case
Race Discrimination in Employment
Settled in 1998 for $4.15 million and injunctive
Twenty-five current and former employees sued IKON/NightRider in federal court in Dallas, Texas for discrimination against African Americans and Hispanics in its practices regarding hiring, termination, assignment, transfer, and promotion. The case settled after two years of extensive discovery. The settlement fund was distributed among a class of African American and Hispanic applicants and employees who were denied employment or worked for the defendant during the period from April 1994 through November 1998. As part of the settlement IKON/NightRider agreed to make efforts to promote equal opportunity at its branches nationwide. It agreed to appoint and maintain an Office of the Vice President of Diversity Affairs, provide incentives to managers for meeting affirmative action goals, implement its affirmative action plans, set up a minority scholarship fund and maintain its internal complaint systems.
