Latest News:
On January 17, 2008, we argued the current appeals in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. The U.S. Department of Justice joined in our argument for reversal of the District Court’s most recent dismissals of the price discrimination claims against American Family, Farmers and Shelter insurance companies. The Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law and the National Community Reinvestment Coalition also submitted a “friend of the court” brief urging that the decisions be reversed. |

Welcome to the Kansas City Insurance Redlining Litigation website! This site, created by the law firm of Sprenger & Lang, PLLC, provides information concerning our investigation and prosecution of class-wide allegations of “insurance redlining” with respect to the pricing of homeowners insurance to persons owning homes in black neighborhoods. The geographical area at issue is generally bounded by: Troost Avenue to the west; the Blue River to the east; East 6th, 12th and 18th Streets to the north; and East 90th Street to the south. We are investigating and prosecuting claims on behalf of homeowners who believe they were charged higher premium rates for homeowners insurance than those who live in predominately white communities because of the racial composition of the area in which their homes are located. We believe that insurance companies that discriminate – intentionally and/or unintentionally—against homeowners whose properties are located in black or other minority neighborhoods violate the Fair Housing Act, the Civil Rights Acts of 1866 and 1870, and the Missouri Human Rights Act. The primary purpose of this website is to provide Kansas City, Missouri homeowners with a means to assist counsel in investigating and prosecuting these allegations and to answer common questions about the litigation. We hope to inform all interested parties about the litigation and its status and to provide easy access to certain public court filings and other relevant information, such as media coverage. We hope that you find it useful and informative. |
