Michael Lieder


Michael Lieder is a managing partner of the firm’s Employment practice. He represents employees and consumers in class action cases.

Mr. Lieder has obtained victories in a number of employment cases. In 2007, he was recognized by Lawdragon magazine as one of the “500 Leading Plaintiffs’ Lawyers in America.” Mr. Lieder served as lead attorney in the First Union case, which broke new ground in ERISA litigation and as lead attorney in cases against Amtrak and New York Life. He served as counsel in the unprecedented TV Writer’s case, where television and motion picture writers alleged age discrimination against networks and movie studios. Mr. Lieder is a frequent lecturer on statistics in employment discrimination cases, employee benefits and wage and hour laws.

Mr. Lieder received his B.A. from Haverford College in 1977 and graduated magna cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center in 1984. He served as editor of the Georgetown Law Journal. Mr. Lieder co-authored Wild Justice: The People of Geronimo vs. the United States, published by Random House in 1997. He has written numerous articles published in the Washington Law Review, the Wake Forest Law Review, and the American Indian Law Review concerning issues in constitutional law, contract law, Indian law, and employment discrimination law. Mr. Lieder is admitted to practice law in the District of Columbia.
